Choose your thoughts wisely <3

They say New York is the city that never sleeps. Our mind sometimes feels like New York City on steroids. Thoughts are constantly racing in our mind. Myself along with so many others fall into the trap of taking every thought as a truth.

That’s just it though, they are not truths. They are suggestions. You could think anything in your brain.

‘Dogs are blue oranges.’

Chances are you are reading this article in your head and if so, you’ve just had a thought that is completely nonsensical. You probably have already chosen to think it was utter rubbish and moved on with your life.

The same applies to all of your negative thoughts that pop up here and there. We constantly think different theories in our head and think about what we are doing wrong. Yes, life won’t always be the easiest, and no we aren’t always doing well in every area of our life, but these thoughts are not productive.

Thinking you aren’t good enough is a bad suggestion you disregard for ‘how do I become good enough.’

Thinking you failed is a bad suggestion for ‘what did I learn?’

Sure we have all heard this before, right? ‘Think about things the positive way’ is the cliche that everyone hates to hear, but what if we still need to hear it.

You are allowed to feel pain and sadness and anger. All emotions are healthy to feel. How you express them is where they become unhealthy. Feel the pain and sadness, but don’t spiral into the thoughts that arises from it. Feel the anger, but don’t spiral into the violence that arises from it.

Choosing which thoughts you want to include in your life is one of the biggest skills I have been learning. It takes a certain level of mental strength that I aspire to have. I hope that if you walk away from this with anything, it’s that thoughts are suggestions and you have the power to choose where to take your life if you so choose/learn to use it.
